Warp charging sounds like a really cool term, but what is it? The short answer is that it is a fast charging technology for certain OnePlus  devices, but there is so much more to it than that. From the way it charges, to the capabilities it has, it is pretty awesome. Warp Charging does have some limitations however. 

What Does Warp Charging Do?

Warp charging is a fast charging technology. It utilizes a higher amperage, rather than a higher wattage to charge your device. This helps reduce the temperature of the charge, which is beneficial for several reasons. For starters, this avoids overheating the battery. When a battery is subjected to heat, it can lose some of the electricity storage capacity. Recently, there was a girl who died when the battery of her phone overheated underneath her pillow and exploded while she was sleeping. The reduced heat can help prevent incidents like this from happening. This can also help prevent fires caused by phones, cables, or wall adapters overheating. 

Another major benefit of Warp Charging is the speed at which it charges. You can go from 0% to 50% in less than 20 minutes. After the first 20 minutes it reduces the charge speed a small amount. Even after this reduction you can still reach a full battery in less than an hour. This is a significant improvement from the Dash Charging that the older model phones utilize. 

Does Warp Charging Work On My Device?

As of right now, Warp Charging is only available for the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7 Pro. Other devices do not have the proper hardware to support the charging specs. Some may benefit from a higher amperage charge though, as standard chargers often do not utilize the max charging speeds of standard phones.
